Show 'n' Tell: Pretty Accessories for Autumn
A new post - It’s definitely fall here in Camrose. The leaves are turning all sorts of gorgeous colours and it’s finally starting to cool down a tad. If it could stay fall all year round I’d be a happy girl. In Saskatchewan when I was a kid it seemed like it would go straight from summer to winter (a blizzard on Halloween and the like) so I’m really grateful for the nice...

Wrap-up: Up and away
A new post - This past week has been the Canadian Hot Air Balloon Championships in Camrose. Over 15 balloons have been filling our skies with colour and wonder, and I’ve been enjoying the ride. A few weeks ago I was able to hitch a media ride with Brant Leatherdale, Jim Cook from the City and Hans Olson, local filmaker and the son of my MLA and landlord. We took a ride over beautiful...

Adventures in housewifery
A new post - I’ve been absent from blogging (but not reading!) as of late for two reasons: one, I’m getting busier now that Camrose is back in full new mode and two, I don’t have anything interesting to write about! I like to think that my two whole readers may prefer to read quality rather than quantity (but that assumes that I’m producing either). I do have lots of...

This is why I love Jill. clickfordetails: This has got to fucking stop. If you want to play your shitty little games with your shitty little girlfriends, fine. It’s stupid and it’s something we would do when we were in elementary school but WHATEVER. I can deal with it. There’s a hide button on purpose and hell, I can always just…

Electric Beer Truck Makes Going Green Cool (er) -... →
My brother had a great blog post today about three of my favourite things - beer, vintage cars and going green. Steam Whistle Beer has transformed a 1957 Chevy Apache pickup truck into an electric-powered beer haulin’ machine, the RetroElectro. Read what Newsboy wrote on his blog then check out the project at http://www.steamwhistle.ca/retroelectro/

of pots, aprons and pretty jars
Good gracious that title makes me sound domesticated! My guy and I bought this Tivoli pot this weekend at Homesense in Edmonton. I love the colour (especially the white inside) and G said it was awesome quality. It was a steal at $14. Also at Homesense I picked up this cute apron. I am not the chef of our household but I do like wearing it when I’m doing dishes because I’m a slopper....

composting - day one
Today is the first day we started composting. We tried vermicomposting - aka composting with worms. Worms courtesy of Coun. Max Linstrand Basically, you layer brown bedding (newspaper, compost, soil etc), add worms then layer in greens (food scraps). More worms! We bought an apartment sized composter, since we don’t have a lot of space or a garden to put all the compost once...

Tennessee passes a pro-creationism bill. →
maryleong: lawsonry: motherjones: But hey, it’s cool. At least they’re not Oklahoma, gettin’ that birther bill closer to becoming law. I’m out! I’m just out. As soon as I am done with my federal service it’s GOODBYE you misinterpreted country who has fallen so far from your original intent. Thank you, Capitalism. Thank you, Religion.  WTF  Wow. Just…… wow.

Sunday shopping updo
I had far from a perfect set this morning when I woke up, so instead of washing my hair and straightening it, I decided to put the blah front parts up, since the back  turned out fairly awesome. So first I put the top part into two flat reverse rolls on the side (a la Lisa Freemont Street), leaving out my bangs and shaping them:  Then, I pulled the sides back and secured them with some...

#positivity
I’m in a super focused and chipper mood. Maybe it’s because I got to have coffee today (none yesterday). Maybe it’s because I have lots of interesting stories on my plate this week. Maybe it’s because I know I’m getting present in the mail today (boyfriend has been buying things for me on those Internetz). Maybe it’s the wonderful swing music coming from my...

I think I know why they're called Victory...
… You feel so victorious when they finally turn out! (sorry for the over-shadow fill. This computer doesn’t have Photoshop and so I had to fix it in Picasa. Boo) They’re actually supposedly named after the victory rolls pilots would do after shooting down enemy planes, but I couldn’t really verify that.  I tried looking at tutorials but I found my best method was using...

In my dreams: I'm a WWII pilot.
I had a dream last night that I time-travelled back to WWII in order to become a female military pilot (which doesn’t make sense because according to one article, Canadian women weren’t allowed to be military pilots). Everything was going good until I mentioned listening to the Stuff You Should Know podcast on the rules of war. Then everything fell apart and I didn’t even get to...

To-do on a day off
Happy Thursday! It being the 3rd Thursday of the month means that I get a day off. Of course, now that I’m an adult that also means working my butt off on my day off so my house doesn’t look a mess. - clean the bathroom, floors and kitchen. I’ve been trying to keep up with the recommended 30-day cleaning list from Apartment Therapy, but most nights after dinner I just want to...

Editor: Do you have a pic that you think is good for front page?
Reporter: I have one of Mary smiling at Jesus. Babies and religion: It'll be cute AND contentious.
Editor: Really, MARY and JESUS? Can I borrow your time machine?!
